The concept of Lone Pine Military Museum came together from three mates, all of which were extremely passionate about New Zealand’s military history.
The three who already had extensive experience in military vehicle restoration, operation, living history, and museum culture, wanted to bring together like-minded people and present different aspects of New Zealand’s military history story, to the people of NZ.
In a nutshell, the group wanted to form a non-profit organisation, which works towards sharing and presenting its resources, to help educate the people of NZ about our country’s military history.
Due to the fact that LPMM currently has no display friendly premises, it uses local events as opportunity’s to present items from its collection to the public. Use the “events” tab to view the next event that LPMM will be attending.
While LPMM cares for its own collection, it also aids in the support and care of its member’s vehicles and equipment. This is often referred to as “sharing the knowledge”.
It is believed that it is better to help Others with their projects, using best museum practice, than to leave people to struggle on their own. In some cases, the museum has been able to link those without projects, with projects that need a home. There are many techniques, and methods, along with products and services, which through careful study have been employed for the care of the collection items, and “sharing this knowledge” with members.
The name “Lone Pine”. The battle for Lone Pine in 1915 will be forever engraved in ANZAC history, ANZAC mates coming together to achieve an objective. Lone Pine Military Museum has been a gathering of mates to strive to preserve ANZAC, and in particular New Zealand’s military history, for the next generation.
Looking forward to the future. It’s important to LPMM to stay on target, by keeping a public presence through eventing, but also equally important to establish usable facilities, to be able to be open to the public, to aid in the telling of New Zealand’s military story.
